Speech Therapy Insurance & Benefits

At SpeechAim, all of our services are eligible for reimbursement through extended health benefits. Please note that we do not offer direct billing. After each session is completed, an official receipt will be emailed to you, which you can then submit directly to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

Coverage varies depending on your individual benefits plan, so we always recommend checking your policy before booking. If you are unsure where to start, you are welcome to give us a call at 437-777-1190, and our admin team will be happy to answer your questions.

Is speech therapy covered by insurance in Ontario?

In many cases, yes. Speech therapy is commonly covered under extended health benefits, private insurance plans, and corporate benefit plans. The exact amount covered can vary depending on your insurance provider, employer plan, annual maximums, and whether your plan requires a doctor's referral.

SpeechAim does not decide what your insurer will reimburse, but we make the process easier by providing the receipts and appointment details typically needed for claim submission.

What SpeechAim provides for reimbursement

After paid sessions, SpeechAim can provide official receipts that may be submitted to your insurance provider. These receipts may include:

Client name
Appointment date
Service type (assessment or therapy)
Amount paid
Provider/clinic information
Information needed to support reimbursement for speech-language pathology services

For most plans, families submit these receipts directly through their insurer's online portal or claims process.

Questions to ask your insurance provider

Before starting therapy, ask your insurer:

Does my plan cover services from a Speech-Language Pathologist?
What is my annual maximum for speech therapy or paramedical services?
Is there a per-session limit?
Are assessments and therapy sessions both covered?
Do I need a doctor's referral for reimbursement?
Are virtual/online sessions covered?
Do receipts need to include any specific provider information?

Tip: If your plan requires a referral, you may still be able to start privately, but you should confirm reimbursement requirements with your insurer first.
